That’s a change!

This is ‘new’ – a separate page for a blog! But it is not really new because this is a continuation of something that was on the ‘old’ website as well. But it is a change. Some change is unwanted: why can’t we keep the old? Some change is inevitable – as the evenings draw in this is all too apparent. Some people try to avoid change at all costs: how many lotions and potions are sold each year to try to prevent us looking older? But chasing after the new is not real change either. It is just chasing after wind. We constantly adapt to change. We may not like it at first but what was once new soon becomes old hat. Changes in services may have sparked rebellions in previous centuries in this neck of the woods (see the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion) but sometimes we need to be open to change: a change of mind and a change of heart. Repentance is about a change of direction – a change towards God and away from self. It is about realigning our wills with God’s will so we can once again have before us the two commandments to love God and our neighbour as ourselves. That change takes and act of the will preempted by an act of grace in Christ Jesus. So that’s where I start…at the foot of the cross.
