According to the Christmas Newsletter of the Ecclesiastical Law Society Cromwellian Laws are still on the Statute book which prohibit the sale and consumption of mince pies! I thought you should know! Merry Christmas!
One example of Christian theology affecting the law of the land quite strikingly is the anti-Christmas laws of Oliver Cromwell, most of which were repealed in the 18th Century. However, beware when eating mince pies of the law that still prohibits the sale and consumption of the humble mince pie, which remains on the statute book. Apparently the banning of the mince pies not only arose from their associations with Christmas but also because they has a reputation for inciting wantonness. So beware you have been warned!
