Bells will be ringing again this weekend

VJ Day

On Saturday 15th August,  most of the world will be celebrating VJ day, the official end of all hostilities worldwide, marking the end of WWII in 1945. There will be a two minute silence at 1100 and churches have been  invited to take part by tolling a bell 75 times, once for each year of the anniversary. We are planning for this to happen in the Mission Community, so St Paul’s Yelverton and St Mary’s Walkhampton will each toll a bell 75 times at 1100.

Walkhampton bells return to use after Covid lock down
Sunday the 16th August at 0930 will the first service for which bells have been able to be rung following the Covid shutdown. There are strict rules that ringers will follow for numbers of bells, social distancing, access, and time limits. At last, a welcome return to a recognisable sound of the English countryside.
